Torino 2-3 Roma ‘It won’t happen but…’

with No Comments

Fifth place. Minimum seasonal target achieved, if we can say so. Roma beats a young Torino team with a bit too much suffering. At least we got the win we needed to get direct access to the next edition of the Europa League. The Champions League can wait another year, unless we get a magnificent surprise.

In fact, with four straight wins Roma would lift the cup and get direct entry into the Champions League as top seed next year. And could fight to win the European Supercup, too. Sevilla, then Wolves or Olympiacos, a probable semifinal with Manchester Utd and who knows, another historic final against Inter.

It looks so difficult but not impossible. But to get there you will need a more mature Roma team, ready to battle with real giants out there. The good results in the last Serie A games are not reliable tests for these types of opponents, there is too much difference. Starting from Sevilla, not the best team but well equipped and so used to winning this competition.

Not to mention Wolves, one of the most difficult teams in the Premier League, with United on the rise with confidence, who has just finished third in the standings. In short, after the Juve friendly match this weekend, the real deal of this season will begin. Strange but true, the match with Juve will not count, in fact both teams are likely to field youth and reserves. Juve are Champions again, of course, but have their Champions League campaign resuming, too.

Thus this ends a very disappointing league for Roma, with the last game of Serie A post-Covid. Yet Roma can still turn this around, can redeem with four games that can really change everything, a coveted trophy and Champions in one fell swoop. It would be something not typical by Roma, frankly, those things that happen every 30 years if you like it. It won’t happen, but… Forza Roma.
